Reading this on your phone? You’re not alone. In fact, most adults in the United States get their news specifically over mobile devices, a trend that has steadily increased in recent years. We’re also doing a lot more than reading news. A recent study from CTIA showed an 82% increase in mobile data use from 2017 to 2018.
In honor of this, we’ve come up with a list of fun ways we are using mobile data.
- Samsung Family Hub™ Refrigerator – This smart refrigerator uses a camera to help families view its contents from anywhere. This can help mom check to see if there is any milk, or help families check on older adults to see if there is any food in the fridge.
- Candy Crush Saga – More than 2.7 billion downloads later, this game is one of the most-played most apps of the 2000s. And there are sequels: Crush Soda, Jelly Saga, and Crush Friends saga.
- VR – We’re not wandering wirelessly with VR headset just yet, but that innovation is just around the corner. With the powerful combination of a 5G network and graphic processing, you will soon be able to take a stroll while gaming without any lag.
On the flipside, there are some important ways you can monitor your data usage as well.
By logging into your carrier’s website you can check your account details. May providers also have the option to sign up for text alerts as you approach your data limit. To check your current month’s usage on your Android phone, go to Settings > Connections > Data Usage. On an iPhone, tap Settings > Cellular and look under Cellular Data Usage for the current period’s usage.
