Hoosiers Winning

5G

The Hoosier State is the latest state to pass legislation that will bring faster wireless data speeds and better coverage to consumers. On May 2, 2017 Governor Holcomb signed into law SB 231 that streamlines wireless infrastructure and small cell deployment across the state.

The fact is, the use of wireless devices is soaring. As of February 2017, nearly 80 percent of Americans own a smartphone. By 2020, the number of “Internet of Things” devices will be more than twice the number of people on EARTH. We need next-generation wireless infrastructure to keep pace with this demand now so that we can keep connected to what matters most.

We also need to lay the groundwork for the future of wireless.

The next generation of wireless technology (after 4GLTE) is 5G, which promises access to faster data speed. It will also enable the digital future of a connected life–a reduction in the cost of energy, increased access to medical professionals, faster emergency response times, and less time commuting.

This bill, championed by Senator Brandt Hershman and Representative Dave Ober, puts us – consumers – first. It benefits small businesses and communities across Indiana, while also securing the Hoosier state’s status as a leading technological innovator.
